Greeting & casual conversation

(LQ) If God were more a part of your life, would it be better?

(John 10:10)  The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

(DQ1) Have you come to the place in your spiritual life where you know for certain that you have eternal life? Or is that something you would say you’re still working on?

(1 John 5:13)  I write these things to you ….. that you may know that you have eternal life.

May I share with you how I came to know I have eternal life and how you can know it too?

(DQ2) Suppose something were to happened to you today and you found yourself standing before God and He asked you. “Why should I let you into My Heaven?” What would you say?

Grace

Heaven is a free gift

(Romand 6:23) For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

It is not earned or deserved

(Ephesians 2:8,9) For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.

So, why can’t we earn eternal life? Because as the Bible teaches …

Man

Man is a sinner

(Romans 3:23) for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God

He cannot save himself

(Matthew 5:48) be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect

We can’t save ourselves because of what the Bible teaches about God.

God

God is merciful - and doesn't want to punish us

(1 John 4:8b) God is love.

God is just - and must punish our sin

(Exodus 34:7b) will by no means clear the guilty

We have a problem, but God solved this problem in the person of Jesus Christ.

Christ

Christ is both God and man

(John 1:1, 14) In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.

He died on the cross and rose from the dead to pay the penalty for our sins and purchase a place in Heaven for us.

(Isaiah 53:6) All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.

This gift is received through faith.

Faith

Saving faith is not - just head knowledge

Nor just temporary faith

Saving faith is - trusting in Jesus Christ alone for our eternal life

(Acts 16:9) Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.
